I’m a lawyer, and I handled many cases in which the foreigner is scammed, Here I want to share a tip which may reduce the risk of being scammed.

In many scam cases, the scammer used a bank account which is not his but in his control.

If you’re doing a business with a Chinese supplier, usually the Chinese supplier should use a local bank account for receiving money. A normal Chinese supplier is supposed to have a bank account at the city where the supplier is located. So if the Chinese supplier ask you to remit money to a bank account that’s not in the city of his business, you should be alert about it.

If the Chinese supplier do not use his local bank account, probably he intended to escape from something legal.

Especailly when a supplier in mainland China use a bank at Hongkong or other foreigner countries to recieve your money, you some seriously pay attention to it. I have met too many cases in which the scammer in Mainland China use bank located in Hongkong or some third party country and ask the foreigners to remit money to them.

Because Hongkong and /or foreign country have a different legal system compared to China, it’s very hard to seek a normal legal remedy if your money is remitted to the bank account where the supplier is not located, which may make your case complicated.

If you’re not sure about the safety of your business, I strongly suggest you consult a lawyer before you do the relveant business. Even though a lawyer won’t guranttee that your business is totally secure or or not, you could significantly reduce the risk of being scammed by folowing a lawyer’s suggestion.

Some peope think that if he consults a lawyer, he may spend legal fees on it. It’s not right, the cost on making your business more secure is what you should not save. Or else it may be too late when you find you’re in a situation when you can’t find an effective legal remedy.
